I have over 15 years of experience in event management, having always felt passionate about developing and improving processes, particularly those that bring people together. I have also worked in the public and not-for-profit sectors for over 10 years, striving for fulfilling work that ultimately makes a positive difference in people’s lives.
Experience
Since March 2017, I have worked in a variety of roles in higher education. I am currently a part-time Education Manager at UCL, where I support research students in the Faculty of Population Health Sciences. Before this, I worked at Imperial College London, where my last role was as Centre Manager for the Postdoc & Fellows Development Centre.
I also worked in a variety of museums, galleries and theatres in Edinburgh. And prior to this, at the start of my career, I was an Events Intern for a charity called Arts & Business Scotland!
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Event and Marketing Management from Edinburgh Napier University and a Master’s degree in Psychology of Mental Health from the University of Edinburgh. I also have a Certificate in Proofreading and Editing from the College of Media and Publishing.
Examples of my previous work:
- I developed and delivered a networking retreat for postdocs at Imperial College London.
- I have planned hundreds of events, managing or supporting every step of the event management process, from creating an event plan to post-event communications. These include: awards, social events, welcome inductions, roadshows, team meetings and away days, training courses, workshops and development programmes.
- I have managed and developed a variety of processes, such as: improving the structure of newsletters and webpages; improving the processes of collecting, analysing and presenting data held on customers; creating and improving email communications and templates; creating and improving budget records, creating step-by-step instructions, guidelines and project trackers.
- I managed an upgrade in website structure and content for the Imperial Postdoc & Fellows Development Centre.
- I provided tailored feedback and support for several students’ CVs and cover letters.
- I have created, proofread and edited hundreds of webpages, newsletter articles, and social media content.
